Free German Software Program

These programs will help you use your computer to learn your school subjects and learn other things just for fun. This section is under development. We are testing whether umlauts and other features will download and run properly. All these programs are merely a short working test program. Please download them and let me know if they worked. Were you able to understand the complex download instructions? Everything worked when tested by Harold Eddleman. Soon as I get word from a few people that everything works for them, I will be begin placing genuine programs here.

I wrote all this for another site, it should work here on JumpWeb.

math.bas - This is a short working program for testing downloadability. It adds two numbers. Does it work for you?    We use this program below, in the instructions section.

gsoft1.bas - This a very simple QBASIC program of a few lines. It contains some of theGerman Vocabulary of Section 200. I displays the German word or phrase. Try to think of the English equivalent. Press Enter and the answer appears. Press again and the next German Phrase appears. While this is a simple program, it can teach much German. If you use this program Click Here and tell me so I will add more words to it.

If you know no German, you will learn quite a lot by running this phrase/vocabulary program..

All these programs will run under Qbasic on IBM compatible computers. Qbasic is included with MS-DOS 5.0 and higher.

Most of the programs will also run on the Basic that came with DOS 3.3. If not, you can edit away the problems so the programs will run on your computer. Editing programs is a good way to learn programming.

Click on this link to Math.bas .

1. The program will appear on your screen, but you can't run it in any browser. You must follow the next steps first. Do not be alarmed if umlauts and other special characters appear distorted. That is because HTML displays some codes differently.

2. Press keys: alt-f-a or use your mouse to click FILE, then SAVE AS

3. A dialog box will appear to allow you save math.bas in any directory you choose, or you may type in a new name for it. You should retain the .bas extension. Explorer seems to require you to retype math.bas or whatever you want as the filespec. USE Netscape and save work and you will see why professionals mostly use Netscape.

4. To run the program, go to that directory in MS-DOS and type qbasic math <Enter> and the program will load. type alt-r-<ENTER> to run the program.

For more information on using qbasic programs read your manual, books, or use qbasic HELP.
