A Page of Pictures

This is a demo page, testing layout for a picture page to build your German vocabulary.

{The English text for this page in not quite good enough for the German authors to begin working on the translations, but they are welcome to do so if they want. I began this as a Kinder seite, but got interested in trying to make it interesting for older students. Maybe we can use {} to enclose editoral notes while we are writing our pages.}

I got carried away using Babelfish while writing the above. The above would be nice for the late pages of chapter 100 or early Chapter 300. Nadine, Gabrielle, or Talia, I could go to a better translator or try to insert my own German, but I am short on time today. I will present this as an example. This did not take long and makes me excited that it may not be so difficult to write some illustrated pages after all. However, I should hope our final pages look better than this. I do not like the large print. But I made it large for small kids. Of course, the page is too crowded for young kids. Nadine, it is possible for your kids to edit this page before you do? It would be valuable to have their input. I guess you don't have WWW at home, but perhaps they accompany you to your office sometimes. I know a professor at University of Illinois who carried her 8 month daughter to her classes, on her back as Indians do. I never heard a word of criticism from faculty or students. She taught horticulture, held a doctorate and was about age 27. I never heard the baby cry or demand attention.

Below is the page that I originally began to write. I am just using figures that I already had in my directory.

Meine Bilter Seite Für Kinder

{I do not have many pictures for kids. I just used what I had. Using Graphics Workshop, I should be able to enlarge some figures and reduce others so that the figures are neared the same size. I will probably keep this page for a while as a horrible example and then improve it and save that as a different page for Demo. At present I do not have Grapics Workshop installed and can't work on the pictures. The main effort now is to look for pictures. Do not discard pictures because we need pictures for preschool kids and Gymnasium students. I did check my spelling on this page.}

{It is immediately clear that we could have lots of picture pages for kids and adults. Suggested pages: gemusen/(vegetables, animals/tiere, plants/ , buildings: churches, home, shed, school; ...}

This is a demo page to test the best design for a picture page. Don't forget that large pictures can take up 2 or more squares. long texts can also use 2 or more cells.

Editor's Note: Chapter 100 of this site is for teaching young childern to read German. It makes no difference whether they are German childern or natives of some other country. This is an international cooperative effort by the members of GermanList@listbot.com. You are invited to join us. The final version of these pages should not look anything like this first effort.
