Model German Primer Page

Editor's Note: These are merely ideas for a page of the on-line German Primer being written by the members of GermanList@listbot.com. This is an international cooperative effort. You are invited to join us. The final pages will look nothing like this.

This chapter (pages ger100 to ger199.htm) is intended to help German or English speaking childern read simple German texts. The childern will learn to translate German text into English (should I have written childern will learn to read German). This chapter will probably be very much like the first readers that German childern use in school.

Prior to this page, we may have Qbasic programs you can download free and use on your computer to teach your child to read German words such as Hand, Fuss, Arm, and Kopf, and point to these parts of his body. Those programs would display a single large word in red letters on a white background. The parent or teacher could change the colors if desired.

-------------Model page begins here------------------------------

da ist Hans

da ist Elsa

More lines of German text can be added if desired. We would add pictures if we can find or draw them. We must avoid copyright material.

If the teacher or parent can speach German then the child can read the sentences in German, but what do we do if the parent know no German? I know nothing about speech from text, but that may be availabe for free download somewhere we should look into adding German speech from text for those parents who have it available.

Would we want to add the English text at bottom of the same page.

there is Hans

there is John

there's John

there is Elsa

Perhaps ideas or helps for the parent can go at the bottom of the page or via a help button. ger104h.htm might be a help page.

Adults trying to learn German may find these primer pages useful. I did.
