While Lorenz Edelmann was born in Airlenbach and lived his entire life there, three of his childern emigrated to America. The lineage of this family is given on page eg540.
According to Dr. Weber the earliest record of this family is Veltin (Valentine) Edelmann of Finkenbach, born about 1525, who was owner of Eberts-Hube a piece of land of a couple dozen hectares. His son Hans Edelmann was owner of Eberts-Hube in 1575. The family continued living in Finkenbach until ___ when ___ Eddleman (gen ___) married _________ and moved to Airlenbach. The family then continued living in Airlenbach until those of interest to us moved to America.

At this point their are 5 generations which I am omitting because Weber had some problems working out names of individuals. For the details see page eg540. We will try to write something here later especially if Jim Groce has any clarifications.

Lorenz Edelmann was born 1693 Jan 21 by Weber's calculations and he died 1732 Mar 7 in Airlenbach. We do not know the name of Lorenz's wife. They had 5 childern that we know of. Perhaps only 4 childern survived and three of these emigrated to Pennsylvania. One surviving child died in Hainbrunn, germany, at age 55.

After Lorenz's death, his wife, mother of all the childern below, remarried on 1732 Oct 23 to Johannes Schäffer of Güttersbach. We do not know anymore about her. At the time of their father's death the childern's ages were Peter, 11; Margret, 9 (if still alive); Adam, 8; Georg, 3; and Michael, 1.

The Childern of Lorenz Edelmann of Airlenbach

(A.) VIIIa Hanss Peter Edelmann born 1721 Sep 7 in Airlenbach married Catharina Joh daughter of Georg J., Centschöffe (a type of judge) of Gammelsbach on 1949 Apr 22 in Beerfelden. She died 10 months later on 1750 Feb 17 in Gammelsbach.

Harold, (This is a note Bill of SEMO sent earlier---edit and discard after noting the perer st->jacob--> lost       note)

This IS the Surry Co. Peter, identified by his wife's name. Some of the his daughters have recorded births in Pa., and his son Peter listed a birth date in Pa. in a Rev. War pension application. I could take this family from here because it is relatively well-documented (except some children of Peter Sr.'s son Jacob).

----Bill

Hanss Peter Edelmann remarried in Beerfelden on 1752 April 27 to Anna Margretha Schäfer, the daughter of the late Johannes Schäfer of Ober-Sensbach. Her brother was Adam Schäfer of Ober-Sensbach. Adam Schäfer immigrated to America on the same ship with Peter Edelmann and Margretha. Later in America Peter ran a newspaper ad trying to locate Adam Schäfer. A tabulation of the known events in the life of "John" Peter Edelmann of Airlenbach and North Carolina is located on page eg661. Page 661 was compiled by William Rodney Eddleman, James Groce, and others.

I know of no evidence this Peter had a son Reuben. The only (and first) Reuben I know about was from the line of David and Elizabeth (Adams) Eddleman of Lincoln Co., NC. Someone at some point in the past must have gotten their wires crossed (easy to do with all the Peter Eddlemans in NC!).

l Date: Monday, August 25, 1997 8:14pm Electronic Mail From: INT:joeeddleman@InfoAve.Net Msg#: 338711 William eddleman did quite a bit of research in Germany before he died but was never able to tie down the birth place of my Peter.He did locate records for another Peter Edelman in the marriage register of Ober-Sensbach, year 1717 page 145 " 1715, January 7, in the house of....? there was married by the priest after the usual public notice Hans Peter Edelmann, son of the late Hans Nicolaus Edelmann, inhabitant of Huettelthal with maid Eva Catherinea....?, legitimate daughter of the late Adam Schaeffler, inhabitant and miller of Ober-Sensbach. In documents there are mentioned the children of the above mentioned married couple: 1716, July 17, Tuesday night about 8 o'clock there was born to Hans Peter Edelmann, here by Eva Catharina, his wife, a little boy, who was baptised on the following day. 1717, Febr, 25, in the morning around 4 o'clock there was born a Rose Baerbel 1722, July 24, in the evening at 7 o'clock there was born a Hans Pete According to these documents according to a German researcher Dr. H.F. Weber from Darmstadt for William Eddleman "the family Hans Peter Edelmann must have lived without any doubt in Ober Sensbach. The head of the family should be identical with the Peter we are looking for. According to the marriage register from 1715, this Peter Edelmann will probably have come from Huettenthal and married into Ober-Sensbach. There are no more documents found, especially about the emigration of the family of Peter Edelmann from Ober-Sensbach to America" This resaercher found mention of other Eddlemans 1. in Finkenbach near Rothenberg a certain Velten Edelman (1557) 2. In Schneppenhausen near Darmstadt: Adam, Peter and Wendel Edelman (1622) Michael Edelman (1588 and 1640) 3. In Graefenhausen near Darmstadt-Anna Maria Edelman daughter of Velten Edelman (1640) In 1958 Dr. Weber suggested that they look for my Peter Edelamn arounf Beerfelden. As I may have mentioned, I have a good bit of German research information but much is disjointed, some has not been translated and all of it is difficult to understand. Joe Eddleman

Dear Bill,Harold and EDDLEMAN-L:

Here is the data for the children of Barbara Edelmann,wife of Theobald
Gross,daughter of Johann Peter Edelmann and Anna Margaretha
Schafer(Schaefer). She is identified at Surry County, North Carolina in
the 7 Jan 1789 will of Peter Edelman with identification of
his wife as Margaret.

Margaret,it is noted, dissented from the will on 11 Aug 1789. Barbara is
identified as Barbara Grose.

Moravian Archives at Winston-Salem,Carolina provide strong evidence to
link Barbara Gross,nee Edelmann,to Johann Peter Edelmann and Anna
Margaretha Schaefer.

I have numerous Gross entries but will only cite the children of Barbara
here.

Wachovia Church Book:

Catherine Gross,b. February 13,1794. Parents Dewald and Barbara Gross;

Anna Margaretha Gross,b. November 27,1785. Parents Dewalt and Barbara
Gross. Sponsors Peter and Margaret Ettlemann;

Christina Gross,b.June 9,1794. Parents Theowald Gross and Barbara m.n.
Edlemann;

Jacob Gross,b.January 12,1797. Parents Dewald and Barbara m.n. Edlemann
Gross. Sponsors are Heinrich Schor and Catharina m.n. Wagner.

Bethabara Book:

Johannes Gross,b.February 5,1776. Parents Ewald and Barbara Gross.
Sponsors Simon and ____ Gross.

David Gross,b.1781(bpt. April 7,1782). Parents Dewald and Barbara Gross.
Sponsors the parents;

Simon Gross,b.May 7,1783. Parents Dewald and Barbara Gross. Sponsors the
parents.

Notes: The above entries with obvious misspellings and some
phonetic spellings are exactly as provided by the Moravia Archives.
Theowald Gross and Barbara m.n. Edlemann are,also,recorded in the
Wachovia Book as sponsors for Christina Gross,b. February 13,1794;parents

Simon Gross and Maria Magdalena Schirmer. Following my correspondence
with the Yadkin County Public Library, I learned of a short historical
piece Anna Margaretha Groce Shore by Alice Brumfield. My
thoughts are her name was Gross Schur. Anna Margaretha Groce Shore's name
is entered in the John Shore Bible;she married John Shore, son of
Frederich Shore,Jr. and Barbara Reis,on November 12,1804. Anna Margaretha
Gross Shore did not go to Kentucky as did her parents Theobald and
Barbara Gross,m.n. Edelmann. Anna Margaretha Gross Shore,who was probably
named for her grandmother Schaefer,has a will recorded at Yadkin County,
North Carolina on 27 February 1867. Most of these families lived in the
area of Deep Creek,several miles southeast of current day
Yadkinville,North Carolina. My belief is that the Eddelman, Gross, and
other related families began their movement towards Kentucky around
1800;filed claims there,improved their claims,while maintaining farms and
families in North Carolina. Will follow this with some North Carolina
Edelmann information because I am sure it is all not contained in the
Edelmann Collection from the Pennsylvania Historical Society.

Regarding the question of Johann Peter Edelmann vs Hans Peter Edelmann; I
can offer this explanation. Hanns and Hans are a form of the name Johann
and Johannes. I have two separate church documents from Beerfelden that
identify him as Johann Peter Edelmann. Using Ernest Thode's German
English Dictionary; I hold to the belief that his name was Johann Peter
and was probably known as Peter as he is shown numerous times in the
above baptismal records. Note the variations in Theobald! Das beste
kommt noch.  Jim Groce

ubject: Barbara Edelmann,wife of Theobald Gross Date: 26 Oct 97 16:25:52 -0500 From: EDDLEMAN-L@rootsweb.com To: Indbio Noted an error in the children of Barbara Eddlemann and Theobald Gross. Catherine or Catherina Gross date of birth should be December 29,1773 not February 13,1794. My eyes were tiny red slits when I entered this data. Catherina's entry is found on pg 162 of the Wachovia Book. Think I have the birth date and birthplace for Peter Jr.,son of Edelmann and Schaeffer. Will send it next time. Also, have IGI for Edelmann in PA and NC. Anybody interested? ==== EDDLEMAN Mailing List ==== Have you visited the Eddleman Genealogy Library lately? http://www.disknet.com/indiana_biolab/eg.htm
