Subject: What format do you want for the German Edelmann lineages in EGL

These introductory comments will be placed on pages eg500 to 504 of my site. Those pages will include a tutorial on reading Old German Penmanship (via links to other sites), tutorial on reading early american records (via links), German given names (notice all the boys are named Johann and all the girls are named Anna in some families), German for genealogists (leaning a dozen words will enable you to make some progress). Eventually pages 500-504 will also include information on wars and history from ancient to 1850 to give aid to those searching for their roots. This will include links to old maps. Page 505 will introduce Dr. Weber's work for William H. Eddleman. The Edleman lineages in Germany will begin with this page. About 40% of the first draft of Weber's first lineage is given below. Please look it over and write me your suggestions for easier understanding. After we have decided upon a format, I will type in more pages.

Comments by Harold Eddleman, Editor

My translations and comments are in blue except for single words where I have typed "before" in place of vor and "~" for um (meaning approximately). For technical accuracy and to retain the original style I have transferred the work of Dr. Weber to HTML without change except to spell out some of his abbreviations. My HTML links to the next generation replace Weber's sehe IIa (meaning see IIa). I plan to leave the German notes in the report and offer my translation in blue. If you have a better translation of any sentence, please e-mail it to me. I plan to get these pages online and then add my translations. All these lineages are reconstructions by Dr. Weber based on the records he found. Dr. Weber did all this work in two years! He had to find the records, read the old pen styles, and look for relationships, and then type these family lineages.

Abbreviations used centuries ago and retained by present-day German genealogists

marriage data of second marriage of husband, remarriage data of widow placed at end of line.
list of the childern, including death data if child had no offspring

(The IIc. means generation 2, and the third family having childern of that generation
