The following pictures were taken over the race weekend of October 1-3, 1999. The saga of this race was the first race that Jeff Gordon had
to go without his ole pal Ray Evernham. The media was swamped around Jeffy
and his new crew chief Brian Whitesell. Only two scenarios could happen: Verdict: Gordon won, and Whitesell still was tagged as a loser. Jeff Burton was continuing his midseason slump. He was out to lunch all weekend long. He practiced poorly, and qualified poorly (what's new - huh?). The race turned into one of those funky half-the-field-going-a-lap-down-because-of-a-caution-while-in-the-pits sort of races. Jeff Burton made a pit stop, along with several other top runners, and the caution came out catching them a lap or two down. Burton made adjustments to the car and got a lap back. He was actually running faster laps than the leaders at the end of the race, but finished the first driver one lap down in 7th place. |
